[An Island Review] VHS to DVD 3.0
December 2008, 30

Dec 28 2008 |

With video's ever advancing technology, I'm faced with the problem of tons of VHS tapes of Girlie Girl growing up. I've been thinking of tranferring our home movies to DVD for some time now and have even contacted a few companies to price around. Boy, are they expensive.

So when I had the opportunity to review VHS to DVD 3.0, I thought "Why not?"

Product Description: "VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe makes it simple to archive your videotape collection onto DVD or CD. It also lets you create your own DVD/CD movies from your Camcorder, VCR or DVD player. It's the best choice for backing up your irreplaceable home videos — or for just saving money by not buying the DVD versions of movies you already own. Deluxe version with USB 2.0 video capture device included. Convert video into WMV format, to watch on your Windows-based PDA or mobile device Record audio from cassettes, LP records, and video tapes and create MP3 files or audio CDs Dual-layer DVD support (DVD writer must also support dual-layer discs) USB 2.0 video capture device included (S-Video and A/V input, XP and Vista ready)"

At first I was a little intimidated by the whole process. However, once I took everything out of the box and read the directions, I realized how easy the set-up was. Everything I needed came right in the box. There are two ways to transfer your VHS tapes: Novice & Professional. I chose the novice version and was surprised at how simple it was. All it took was one click and the step-by-step directions on the computer screen made it fool proof.

However, before I actually started the process I read the reviews on Amazon.com and found out that some people were having problems with the transfer. They suggested making sure I had the most updated driver versions which are located at http://www.honestech.com. Once that was done, everything went relatively well.

It did take a little longer than I expected to tranfer the entire tape but the end result was worth it. I now have all of Girlie Girl's baby videos on DVD for her to watch over and over again. The best part is that it can also transfer my videos to my iPod allowing me take my home videos on my trips with me. Whenever I'm missing my family, all I have to do watch my iPod to see their smiling faces.

Thanks to VHS to DVD 3.0, we'll have these memories to treasure for a lifetime.
